Studying and Training at BTPP

Why Choose Us:

We provide an inclusive and welcoming learning environment for all our students. Here's why our BTPP stands out:

Inclusive Approach: We believe psychoanalytic concepts should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or prior knowledge. Our commitment to inclusivity means we welcome students from diverse cultural, social, and professional backgrounds.

Openness to Contemporary Psychoanalytic Thinking About Difference:
Our approach embraces contemporary psychoanalytic thinking about difference. We recognise and respect the uniqueness of everyone, and discussions and explorations of the diverse cultural, social, and familial contexts that shape human experiences are encouraged. You'll find a space where these topics are not just acknowledged but celebrated.

A Learning Community Where All Are Welcome: We don't just provide education; we foster a vibrant and inclusive learning community. Here, you'll be part of a group of passionate and supportive peers who, like you, are committed to making a difference in the lives of children and families. We are dedicated to creating a safe and respectful space where all voices are heard and valued.

There are three levels of courses available:

Short Courses: These are courses that provide an introduction to different aspects of this way of thinking, for example the Perspectives on Development course and the Introduction to Infant Mental Health course. These courses can be interesting and useful in their own right but also act as a “taster” if you are thinking about the M7 course but unsure whether it is right for you. We can also offer bespoke courses and training for your organisation. To find out more contact us via info@btpp.co.uk. To find out more about our short courses click here

Perinatal, Child, Adolescent, and Family Work Course (M7): This two year part-time postgraduate diploma course (with an optional Masters in the third year) is aimed at professionals working with children and young people who want to develop psychodynamic thinking in their practice. It is also required if you wish to go on to do the clinical child psychotherapy training. To find out more about the Post Graduate Diploma click here

Clinical Training:

Child Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy training: this is a full time Clinical Doctorate, a four year salaried clinical training that leads to registration with the Association of Child Psychotherapists, and qualifies you to practice as a child psychotherapist within the NHS and in other settings. Adult Psychotherapy training: This course is designed specifically with Child Psychotherapists in mind. It leads to qualification as an Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist who can register with the British Psychoanalytic Council. To find out more about the adult psychotherapy training click here

Events: Talks and Conferences

In addition to our courses and training, as part of our remit to promote the value of psychoanalytic thinking, we also run regular events including talks on a range of subjects, and conferences with guest speakers.
