Infant Mental Health

Introduction to Infant Mental Health - 5 week course

Due to a very positive response to the similar courses run in previous years we are pleased to repeat the course and the 'Introductory workshop on Infant Mental Health', both run by Becky Wylde and Eva Shehu-Whitefield.

The 5 week course takes place twice a year usually on Monday’s from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. Cost £125.00 (bursaries available on application)

After that this course will be repeated at different intervals during the year.

The aim of this course is to encourage students to think about the emotional experience of the infant and imaginatively explore the unfolding world from the young child’s point of view.

The course is designed to be experiential in its core, offering two seminars one on work discussion and one on infant observation, asking the student to carry brief observations in the community. We also read and discuss background theory relating to a psychoanalytic approach to infant mental health. We teach in small seminar style discussion groups.

This is a short course suited for students who are working with children and families and who are interested in thinking about early emotional experience and its effect on the  developing personality.

⭐️ Past students have consistently rated the course very satisfactory and feedback to us that the course has enhanced and enlivened their work, giving them new perspectives in their practise.

⭐️ For the students that wish to continue to learn further about this way of thinking and working of working have the option of applying for the substantial M7 training course

New Course Released

We are pleased to announce we are re-running this popular online course available through BTPP: Perspectives on Development. In this short course we will be exploring human development, with an emphasis on emotional development. We will look at some key periods in the life span, and considering their importance for development and some of the key issues, or developmental tasks, that characterise each period. At the same time we will be thinking about development itself, and some different ways in which we might conceptualise and understand development

The course will be delivered through a series of online small group seminars, plus a variety of course audio visual materials and reading to absorb at your own pace. The course will consist of eight 75 minute seminars, which will run fortnightly via zoom at 8pm-9.15pm. The exact start date is still being finalised, but we are aiming to start in November.

In responding to the pandemic in 2020, we had to move our existing courses and trainings online to be delivered remotely, and we have learnt a great deal about how to do this effectively in an engaging way. We have built on this development to offer online-by-design courses to extend our geographical reach, and make learning flexible and accessible for those who might find in person attendance at BTPP difficult.
