Perspectives on Development

  • We are pleased to announce we are re-running this popular online course available through BTPP: Perspectives on Development. In this short course we will be exploring human development, with an emphasis on emotional development. We will look at some key periods in the life span, and considering their importance for development and some of the key issues, or developmental tasks, that characterise each period. At the same time we will be thinking about development itself, and some different ways in which we might conceptualise and understand development

The course will be delivered through a series of online small group seminars, plus a variety of course audio visual materials and reading to absorb at your own pace. The course will consist of eight 75 minute seminars, which will run fortnightly via zoom at 8pm-9.15pm. The exact start date is still being finalised, but we are aiming to start in November.

  • In responding to the pandemic in 2020, we had to move our existing courses and trainings online to be delivered remotely, and we have learnt a great deal about how to do this effectively in an engaging way. We have built on this development to offer online-by-design courses to extend our geographical reach, and make learning flexible and accessible for those who might find in person attendance at BTPP difficult.

  • Matthew is a senior tutor at BTPP, and teaches psychoanalytic theory on the M7 course, and is also a visiting lecturer for the child psychotherapy clinical training. He is a practicing child and adolescent psychotherapist and formerly Clinical Director of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in Birmingham.
